Children's Word Games and Crossword Puzzles
Published in Paperback by Times Books (October, 1986)
Authors: Eugene T. Maleska and Ruth Fecych
Average review score:

a great introduction to crossword puzzles
My precocious 6-yr-old is having a great time with this book. He was introduced to crossword puzzles some months ago and loves them. This book is right on target for the stated age range of 7-9 year olds. However, the average child will probably still need adult assistance because there are quite a few references to pop culture gone by like "actor __ Asner" or "knobs on a TV" (what TV's have knobs on them anymore?).

The Clinical and Projective Use of the Bender-Gestalt Test
Published in Hardcover by Charles C Thomas Pub Ltd (March, 1998)
Author: Eugene X. Perticone
Average review score:

All behavior is meaningful
Most clinicians are familiar with the Bender-Gestalt test. Since the publication of the system by Elizabeth Koppitz, the test has been largely utilized for visual-motor screening, screening for neurological impairment, and for emotional indicators. Dr. Perticone has brought this test to a new level. Those who are familiar and believe in the utility of the projective utilization of testing will take delight at a new way the Bender-Gestalt test can be administered and interpreted. In his work, Dr. Perticone discusses the hypothesized symbolic pull of each design, the projective signs of how the designs are drawn, and a method of expanding the Bender. Dr. Perticone brings a method where subjects, clients, and patients can discuss their design, thereby adding to the projective value of the assessment. This is a strongly recommended work, especially for any clinican who utilizes the Bender-Gestalt test in their assessment.

Computer Language C (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich College Outline Series)
Published in Paperback by International Thomson Publishing (January, 1991)
Authors: Eugene Veklerov and Olga Pekelny
Average review score:

Good Resource
Like the other outline series available, this breaks down the typical college course for learning C into an outline format. Also, it has plenty of programming examples and problems, which are broken down step by step. This is very helpful in working through this computer language.

Unlike other books in the same series, this book does not come with exams with answers. Instead, this has sections throughout the book called Rapid Review, which is just as helpful. As you read, you will come across the section with a few questions to test your knowledge on a particular area. If you missed a question in the review, then you know exactly what you have to go over again. This is helpful in solidly learning the material before moving one.

This really helps in reinforcing what you are learning in class (although not that many people take classes in C anymore).

The Congressional Experience
Published in Paperback by Westview Press (August, 2000)
Author: David Eugene Price
Average review score:

Congress from the Inside
Price tells the real story of how the Congress works. What happens to a new member upon arrival to the Capitol Hill? Many people have a picture in their mind that gives a simple, mechanical explanation of how the Congress works: a representative is elected and works for his/her constituency. Price show the inner power dynamic of Congress, with its system of seniority and committee assignments. This is a valuable, readable, and very informative contribution.

Constraint-Based Reasoning (Special Issues of Artificial Intelligence)
Published in Paperback by MIT Press (04 February, 1994)

Good basis of research on constraint reasoning
I have read some papers in this book. I think that this book would be a very good basis for the people who are engaged in the research of constraint satisfaction algorithm, no matter in theory or application area.

Contrails: Reminisces of a Boeing Salesman
Published in Paperback by Taba Pub (15 July, 1996)
Author: Eugene E. Bauer
Average review score:

Good reading, but could be more elaborate
Mr. Bauer describes a very interesting view of the political and business environment in Latin America, during the chaotic years of the 70's and 80's. His experience with the bribery schemes and military officials turned into wanna-be executives was very typical of the region. The stories are sometimes hillarious. I was born and raised in Brazil, and I saw a lot of this happening all around me. It is still normal and acceptable to depend on connections in order to obtain (unfair) competitive advantage. That explains a lot about the struggles of LA in the last 20 years. Overall, it is a very good reading, but I was disappointed with the grammar errors in Portuguese and Spanish. A quick revision would do it. I recommend it to anyone interested on a quick lesson about LA history and the commercial airplane business.

Creative Therapy: Fifty Two Exercises for Groups
Published in Paperback by Professional Resource Exchange (December, 1988)
Authors: Jane Dossick and Eugene Shea
Average review score:

"Time Management" in paperback
As a Social Worker leading two groups daily, this book has given me more time for my other duties. The book is geared towards all age levels, both adults and children, and can be adapted accordingly. There are pages which can be copied and used as written material for the clients, and some which can be used to reinforce the topic of group discussion. My co-workers come in and ask to borrow the book frequently and now have ordered the next editions. I strongly recommend this book to any professional who needs new creativity in leading groups.

Crosby's Opera House: Symbol of Chicago's Cultural Awakening
Published in Hardcover by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Pr (December, 1999)
Author: Eugene H. Cropsey
Average review score:

Reads Like Fiction, But True
Cropsey must have done 4 or 5 times the research customary. As a result he can make a date come alive with many diverse points, all creating a vivid impression of what he has in mind. It's the literary equivalent of High Density TV. During a wild period in Chicago's history a couple of Crosby cousins immigrate from Cape Cod and add a cultural dimension where none had existed in Chicago's history. It;s a great story that just happens to be authentic!

Delacroix in Morocco
Published in Hardcover by Flammarion (November, 1994)
Authors: Delphine Le Cesne, Tamara Blondel, Brahim Alaoui, and Eugene Delacroix
Average review score:

A superb overview of an exquisite artist
This book has a wonderful overview of Eugene Delacroix's work as it relates to his study of Morocco. The selection of sketches, drawings, watercolors, and oils are well chosen and beautifully arranged. Although a translation, the language is clear and appropriate. For an in-depth appreciation of one of Europe's masters of the 19th century, this book in a perfect choice. Also an excellent gift idea for any art lover!
